We all go to New York Fashion Week to focus on the new clothing collections for the upcoming season, but there is more to fashion week than just the clothes. There were notable handbag trends including the growing oversized clutch that is evolving from the large tote bag. Oversized clutches are nothing new, in fact, we have seen clutches grow in size to accommodate all of the necessities we need when out and about. For spring 2013, large tote bags were not carried by their handles, but rather at the bottom as if they were a clutch.
Tip: Do NOT overfill your large tote bag if you plan on carrying it in this trendy spring 2013 manner…you may end up with a broken arm or back pain! Ouchh!!
Charlotte Ronson led this trend with preppy, printed and colorful totes, grasped firmly and carried from the bottom. 118 by Walter Baker collections showed glitzy totes, also carried from the bottom. BCBG Maxazria showed briefcase style bags carried as a clutch. Monika Chiang featured baguette style handbags styled like a clutch in colors to match the outfits they were paired with. Lastly, oversized clutches – that we are more accustomed to seeing – were all over the runways, including an envelope style embellished clutch from Rebecca Minkoff and oversized clutches from Reem Acra.
Below, we’ve listed our favorite oversized clutches and totes carried as a clutch from New York Fashion Week spring 2013.
