Handbags and the history behind them: Celine Trapeze

Celine Trapeze |
Céline
is a French luxury house founded in 1945 by Céline Vipiana. Céline was
originally created as a made-to-measure children's shoe business that
eventually grew into women's shoes and accessories. The ready-to-wear line debuted in the 1960s. Celine Vipiana was the designer from 1945-1997. American fashion designer Michael Kors was named the first women's ready-to-wear designer and creative director for Celine in 1997. In September 2008 Phoebe Philo was appointed as the new creative director of Céline.

The Céline Trapeze is one of the most famous pieces from the eponymous line, and it
features a combo box flap with the signature luggage wings!
|
Celine Trapeze |
Céline Trapeze is known for clean, sleek lines and extra-wide gusset sides.
The flap front adds dimensionality, and multiple colors and materials
are used to bring this bag to life. The top handle has ample space to
carry in your arm, and while you could fling it over your shoulder,
majority just carry it in their hand or crux of their arm.

The most important aspect to note is the beauty in the simplicity of the
design. So many bags have additions that distract from the original
lines and style, but the Trapeze doesn’t need anything more.

Phoebe Philo suggests building a signature wardrobe and updating with colors and
materials. I think this bag represents that philosophy perfectly.
|

It's roomy, you can either hand-carry it or use the strap on my shoulder.
Also you carry it as a cross-body bag when travel. The design is
perfect! Sleek, minimalist, only play with colors and materials, and at
the same time functional.

The only negative from this bag is probably the way the top handle is
placed over the front flap making it difficult to open with one free
hand if you wanted to dig in the bag. Trapeze does come with a long
strap, perfect for the smaller sized version as you can carry it along
as a handbag/cross-body if you wanted to.

Céline Trapeze Bag looks a little similar to the luggage tote as both of them
come with ears like a bat. The ears on both sides can be placed inside
the bag with snap buttons. This bag is hard-sided so it can stand
without putting anything inside.

Celine Trapeze |
Single-handled with a large, sure-of-itself flap, it’s more streamlined and elegant
than the Luggage, which, while appealing, verges on the cluttered side.
Not the Trapeze. It has the foundation of a traditional tote – the
classic square-ish shape and simple clasp on a foldover closure – but
clearly, this bag is anything but traditional. With fanned-out sides
(that may be tucked in for an even more sleek silhouette), so
distinctive in their bold direction and flared shape, it’s both
uncomplicated and totally wild. In light-catching calfskin leather,
winter-divine calfskin and shearling, irresistible python, and
crocodile-embossed, it’s going to be a tough call to choose just one.
It’s swinging, it’s shapely, and since it definitely has the potential
to put conventional tote bags to shame.
